Avis de Camping
Helen TurnerHave spent the last 3 summers at this amazing and peaceful site. The hosts both human and four legged are welcoming and friendly and take that extra time to ensure your holiday is just perfect. The food in the bar is delicious (as is the wine and beer!) the amenities on the site are clean and tidy, the pool is just the right size to do a couple of lengths and then relax or for the children to play the sunny hours away. It’s the most idilicc and beautiful place to spend any time wether it be a couple of nights or a good few weeks. Other than home, it’s my children’s favourite place to be!
Sarah KuehneGreat setting with wonderful views and lovely welcoming hosts!
Here’s SteveWow. I just saw ‘Celebrating 10 Years’ on the Aux Memes website. Me and my wife have spent some great times at Aux Memes over the years touring on our motorbike. It feels like a home from home now. Food and bar are excellent. Pete and Jan are great hosts, with 4 legged client liaison Zowie and Barry they make a great team. Looking forward to this years visit.

We recently stayed here for a total of 18 nights, this is by far the best site we’ve stayed on. If you value peace and tranquility with first class facilities and customer service this is the place for you. On clear nights we sat under the stars gazing into the sky.
When you can tear yourselves away there are many delightful towns and villages most of which have great markets.
One of the highlights of our trip was a days walking high up in the Pyrenees we were greatly assisted in planning this by the site owners Peter & Jan. The nearby village of Massube sells all the basics you will need but in all honesty there are far more scenic places a short journey away.
Wildlife is all around the site and we saw many species of birds and sightings of deer from our pitch was a daily event.
Can’t wait to return, thanks Peter and Janet for making us so welcome.

The twins really liked it!Anna, myself and the twins, aged 7, stayed at Aux Meme for a week during August 2015. We stayed in Jan and Pete’s Gite, so not camping and it was great. Next time we will camp though. The site is quiet, has a great swimming pool and the bar and ‘fast food’ Jan + Pete can provide is very good. I also thoroughly enjoyed the breads and croissants they ordered for us each day. Highly recommended.
FB99. UKSpent one night at this site on the way to the Pyrenees – booked it based on the reviews and then planned our journey around it!
It really is a lovely campsite – there were very few others staying whilst we were there and we chose a pitch at the far end of the site so really felt like there was no-one else around. Extremely peaceful. Some of the pitches didn’t look very level so if it was busy you would need to be prepared to be on a slope.
The facilities are fantastic – I think it was the only campsite we stayed in that had both toilet rolls & seat! It was like being in a nice hotel – not a campsite. Swimming pool was very welcome as temperatures hit 40 degrees c.
We didn’t explore much of the area as it was just too warm – after a short trip out on my bike I decided to just sit and enjoy the peace. In cooler temperatures biking from the site would be very enjoyable and lots of villages and towns nearby looked worth a visit.
We ate at the on-site bar which was very good value.
We do prefer sites where you can wander into a town or village so probably wouldn’t stay for longer than one night but would certainly return if passing through.
Annie.
Stayed a week and could easily have stayed longer. The hosts couldn’t be more welcoming or helpful. The cafe/bar area serves great coffee/beer/wine at sensible prices and the food is freshly prepared. On two of the evenings whilst we stayed there was live music during dinner by professional visiting groups…a really pleasant way to spend an evening. The pool and communal areas are spotless and cleaned throughout the day. The cool camping comment above is correct about shade but the trees are maturing so in a few years time this won’t be a problem….but shade can be found around the site and near the pool (the hosts lent us a parasol during our stay). Offers a good spot for trips in to Marciac for the jazz or for day trips in to the Pyrenees or simply enjoy the many quiet towns and villages in the area. We’ll be going again!
juFantastic family campsite
We stayed at Aux memes in August this year and had such a relaxing and care free time. Jan and Peter are a lovely couple and really make you feel welcome from the minute you arrive. We had a huge pitch right by some fields with beautiful views out across to the Pyrenees. We would quite literally sit and stare at them. The children adored the site – making lots of other friends and loving the pool and cycling up and down the fields. Facilities were spotless and everything you need. In the evenings we would play table tennis – go for walks or hang out in the friendly bar area. One Saturday we ate there and the pizzas were homemade and delicious. It is lovely ordering pain and pastries to pick up the next morning – freshly made in the local boulangerie. You really feel like you have got away from it all at aux memes and the days can happily roll by. We had a couple of day trips – one over to Spain which was exciting and the other to some local caves. The children are still talking about them! Other people went walking in the Pyrennees or visited local artisan markets. Auch is worth a day trip for the food market. We would definitely like to go back to aux memes – it is a beautiful site and part of France. If you want to get away from it all this is just perfect.
Steve Kgreat site
My wife and daughter stayed at the site for 2 weeks during August 2014. We had never been to France camping before and chose this site as a base to explore the region. Jan and Pete were fantastic hosts who were extremely friendly and helpful, nothing was a bother to them! The site proved to be a good base for the Pyrenees with wonderful views. The facilities were excellent and we had a very relaxing holiday. We would definitely recommend camping Aux Memes.
Colin and Carol. Derby, Royaume-UniSmall campsite with big welcome
We have been to this campsite before and continue to love its enduring charm. It is a relaxed site, where nothing is too much trouble for the owners, who make you feel part of their family. The setting is stunning with views to the Pyrenees and surround by rolling countryside in every direction.
HelenWatkinWe have just spent two weeks at this lovely peaceful campsite. The pitches are spacious, and the whole camp site very well looked after, with immaculate toilet and shower facilities (including an excellent accessible washroom). The English owners are extremely helpful and very friendly, maintaining everything to a very high standard, and going the extra mile to make sure that campers have a great holiday, without being at all intrusive. There is plenty to do and see in the local area, and the campsite bar was also a good place to while away many a pleasant hour. We would definitively recommend this site to anyone considering a trip to this area, though it’s not the place to bring teenagers who are looking for lively night life. It would suit older couples like ourselves, or families with young children.
Definitely not one to be missed!
holidayheavenmoWe have recently returned from a 12 night stay at the delightful Camping aux Memes. The site certainly lives up to and deserves its wonderful reviews. Once you arrive at the entrance to the site, with its well tended planters and geraniums, nestling in the rolling countryside, all doubts about the wisdom of such a long drive are dispelled. The warm welcome from Janet and Peter further reassured us that we had chosen the right place! Pitches are large with amazing views over the countryside and the Pyrenees. There is a lovely central area encompassing an open air restaurant and bar (with free wifi), a reception area with access to maps and guide books, a lovely clean pool, a ping pong table, great trees for climbing and good shower and wash facilities. The facilities are clean and comfortable and though small in number, i.e. two showers, the small number of pitches on the site mean that there is never a queue. There is a personal touch to the camping here that we have never experienced before. Janet and Peter know all the campers by name and nothing seems too much trouble to them; for example when our daughter was poorly Janet efficiently set up an appointment with the GP that day. The restaurant is a laid back focus for the evening, with local musicians playing a couple of times a week. Janet’s cooking is excellent, with a simple menu which is ideal for families. The local area presents lots of opportunities for activity, though our children loved the site so much that we didn’t venture far from it! The consistently good reviews on UK camping websites means that Aux Memes is busy with lots of English families, a big plus for our children who made instant friends, with whom they were never short of a den to build or a tree to climb. Aux Memes is definitely on our, ‘holiday heaven’ list!
ChrisHard to leave.
A perfectly tranquil spot for the family. The children made loads of friends and a beautifully relaxed and safe campsite. Janet and Peter are so welcoming and are fabulous hosts. The little bar has a terrific ambience, the confit de canard is to die for and the musical evening soirées are fabulous. We all struggled to leave even after 3 weeks. I would highly recommend this beautiful site and look forward to visiting again sometime in the future.
pfsm95Accueil sympathique. terrain joliment aménagé, arbres encore jeunes. buvette. repas et petit déjeuner. 20 emplacements, calme assuré. lave-linge gratuit. séchage sur fil
Tresbon. UKQuiet site nestling atop rolling hills with picture perfect fields surrounding it. Perfect for a relaxing break – lots of families staying there, a reasonable sized pool for the site allowed respite from the hot weather and in the distance the Pyrenees are awe inspiring. The owners are fantastic, the toilets are clean and a basic menu is complimented by regular theme nights. The owners get some interesting musical acts in which add to the stay! The children’s play park is small and suited for younger children. Site is large enough with very generous pitch sizes for you to not be on top of other folk. Very quiet at night.
BridgetC. UKA wonderful friendly family campsite with the peace and tranquillity we were looking to experience in the real France. The facilities are superb and very family friendly; so much so my children asked to wash! Each pitch has plenty of room without feeling too enclosed by other campers and panoramic views.
The owners of the site were very helpful and full of advice for day excursions in and around the area. An easy day trip out to experience the Pyrenees. We will definitely return to Aux Memes and were so sad to leave as we made some lovely friends. Thank you so much for this truly wonderful camp site, a must for those seeking a get away from it all for an idyllic holiday.
Majorjo. UKThis was our second visit to Aux Memes. See my earlier review. We stayed for around 7 weeks June/July going up to the Pyrenees a couple of times. Just as good as last year. Only difference is that there are some more pitches with electric hook up.
They are excellent hosts and even when we arrived in atrocious weather did their best to settle us in even though we couldn’t get onto a pitch as too soft. If you like live music check out the website as we saw two bands whilst we were there. The Gers is a lovely region with plenty of places to visit. Local supermarket in Masseube stocks everything you could need and local markets are worth a visit too. If you are a motorbike fan they always have the MotoGP on the bar TV. We had a fabulous time and will be back again. Can’t fault anything
David Han. UKWe arrived at the site following an extraordinary amount of rain, some of which continued during our one week stay. We were the only people there, apart from another couple who were touring in their motorhome and who returned during our stay. One other couple arrived before we left to stay in the gite. What could have turned out to be a disastrous return to camping after many years due to the weather was actually a most enjoyable time. The facilities are spotless, and the English couple who run the site could not have been more helpful and friendly. It is a quiet and peaceful site that is a short drive to the nearest village and supermarket. There are spectacular views of the snow covered Pyrenees and the pitches are very generous although some are gently sloping. The large pool was also kept spotlessly clean. We had breakfast a couple of mornings at the covered bar area, and meals are also served here in the high season. Bread can be ordered each day. This is a great base for exploring this part of France, or perhaps just chilling out by the pool. Can’t fault it.
Google Usertrès bon camping, piscine et accueil agréable et jolie paysage!
Fabien.
Nigeljwatson. UKWe just loved this site. Jan and peter are wonderful and cannot do too much to help. Facilities are amongst the best we experienced any where with clean modern wash rooms, showers and toilets. The pool is large as are the pitches. Some of them are sloping and motor homes may need chocks for levelling. Mostly Brits when were there. Genuinely hard to fault. Maybe the remote location and the lack of much shade lose a star or two – but if you want sunshine, rural peace and beautiful night skies look no further. Camping at its best.
DavisClan. UKOh dear! Seems the word is out – we were hoping to keep it a secret.
This is a fabulous site in every way. We stayed for three weeks last summer and had a wonderful time.
Where to start? As this is a small site, the facilities are never busy and there is a friendly atmosphere, generated in large measure to Pete and Jan. The pool is a really good size and we often had it to ourselves. Loungers and umbrellas surround the pool, which is close to the bar, loos and showers, which are kept impeccably clean.
We stayed at a large commercial site in 2011, which was incredibly noisy at night and were looking for a quieter site with good pool. It is testament to the obvious tranquillity of this site that we selected a pitch close to the pool without any concerns about noise. This allowed our kids to go to the pool on their own and we could still keep an eye on them. Also, while cooking up sausages, I could nip to the pool for a quick dip and be back before they burned.
As to practicalities, Pete and Jan take care of most things. There is a large washing machine, good and spacious showers, a welcoming bar, with good value drinks and games for the kids. Jan gets fresh bread every morning if you order the night before and freezes ice packs (essential when we went as it was baking). Jan also does a dish of the day, which is apparently excellent (we didn’t partake (there are plenty of supermarkets close by so we tended to cook for ourselves) but will this year). We can confirm she makes excellent chips!
The pitches are a good size and many have electric hook up.
On the entertainment side, there is obviously the pool and a small kids play area. There is also a table tennis table but watch out, Pete is a demon player. Pete and Jan also hire out DVDs and I seem to recall there was a TV in the bar, but it was rarely on. There is also free wifi at the bar. The kids loved exploring and given the location, there were no concerns about roads etc. However, primarily this is a site for those who want to kick back and soak up the sun and not for those who want kids clubs or ‘animations’.
The only negatives would be that the pitches are slightly sloping, which meant we rolled off the air bed from time to time and little shade unless you create your own. Oh, and Pete’s table tennis skills, which put everyone else in the shade!
We will be back.
Atmos tours 93We stayed at this campsite during the long summer term holidays. It was the first time that we were going to stay here and didn’t know what surprises would await us. When we reached the campsite, after a long journey from the Dordonge, Jan and Peter welcomed us happily and gave us an option of pitches to choose from. We pitched up our tent and then went off to the pool.
The facilities are fantastic from the office to the bar, showers, toilets, laundry, washing up sinks. As well as the pool there was a Table Tennis Table were you could play with your friends as well as the swing/slide area.
Everyone was very friendly and all got along very well. The children all made friends easily and so did us adults. We all got together for a few glasses of wine and a little chit chat when the kids were in bed. It was a wonderful atmosphere.
With Super you and Intermarche 10 mins away you were never short of anything. Leader Price and Lidl in the direction of Auch.
Days out included Lac Saramon (20 mins), Auch (35) mins, Lourdes (90 mins), Biddart for body boarding in the sea (120 mins, and a day driving the cols (tour de france) and into Bossett (Northern Spain. The Jazz festival in Marciac (40 mins)is a must. Toulouse, Narbonne and Perpignan are all in reach but the weather was too hot and the pool too inviting to venture out.
This site ticks all the boxes for our camping holiday and well worth the extra driving from the Dordogne our usual stop. The children loved the 16 nights at Aux Memes and as parents would highley reconmend this site either in a tent or a stay in the mobile caravan or gite where a fly drive from Biaritz or Toulouse is an option.
Thank you Aux Memes.
Gaby.
Sue Skipton, Royaume-UniAtmospheric site
Lovely location. Interesting but not well known area of France. Jan & Peter excellent hosts (loved the dogs). Although we did not have a pet this seemed to be a very ‘pet friendly’ site. This site was originally going to be a stopover on the way to the Perigord but stayed for 4 nights and will certainly return should find ourselves in that area again.
MajorjoWe stayed for 11 nights and couldn’t have wished for a better site. It’s peaceful with fabulous views; pitches are huge separated by low planting not high hedges as often in France which means you lose the views. You can chose to have electricity and water on your pitch. Showers/toilets etc impeccably clean and everywhere is well cared for. I found the washing machine really useful, there’s even an airer to use if it’s raining otherwise a washing line is provided too! Jan and Pete are delightful and always on hand to answer queries. Jan collects delicious bread daily from the Boulangerie which you can order. The bar is open all day and prices are reasonable. The swimming pool was a bonus, especially as we were the only people there for most of our stay. All in all, we couldn’t fault anything and will certainly be returning next summer. For longer.
tinaclarrTranquil and relaxing in an idylic spot
We had a fantastic time at Aux memes, it was tranquil, relaxing in an idylic spot. This coupled with Jan & Pete’s hospitality made for a fantastic stay. We appreciated the dog friendly site and Max enjoyed himself too. We will definitely visit again soon.
Google UserThis is a great campsite. It has all you need but with out the glitz and noise. It is tranquil and green with nice views good size pitches and a great pool. The owners are v friendly and I can’t rate this place high enough.
LizBest campsite we’ve ever visited
We stumbled across Camping Aux Memes while on a house-hunting trip in the Gers in our motor-home. We were so lucky to find it. Set high on a hillside with magificant views of the pyrennees on a clear day, we received a warm welcome and had everything to hand. Jan and Pete were extra-ordinarily helpful and we returned several times over the past two years. Lovely little bar, great pool, showers and washing facilities excellent. Quiet peaceful location within a short drive of the nearest town Masseube, where everything can be obtained. We will return.
Alice HWe stayed at Aux Memes last summer and absolutely loved it. The campsite itself was relaxed, quiet and friendly and is set in a beautiful area which is great for walking and cycling. The kids loved the pool and we all loved the general chilled ambiance. However, it was the genuine kindness of Pete and Jan that made our stay so memorable. Having arrived with engine trouble with our campervan Jan acted as translator for us with the local garage and then really pulled out all the stops for us when our son was taken ill by driving us to the local doctors. We would whole heartedly recommend Aux Meme as a great campsite for chilling out in southern France and we’d certainly visit again if we were in the area.
Colin and Carol. Derby, Royaume-UniAux Memes is in a most beautiful and tranquil part of France and your campsite and gite both reflect and epitomise this beauty and tranquillity. We feel that you have managed to combine both simplicity and high standards to provide a campsite that is welcoming, homely clean and well managed. Your own easy going and relaxed natures only help to make the experience of staying at Aux Memes more enjoyable.
Your attention to detail is shown in the small things that you provide, for example: the bats and balls to go with the Table tennis table, the maps and books of the area over and above the norm, the bicycles, the daily bread service, washing line (with clothes pegs!) and much more. Alongside this is your willingness to share your knowledge and love of the area. As hosts you were attentive to the needs of your guests, be that when a certain person was stung in the mouth or when a child needed a doctor or a family need an interpreter – all of these seem to be beyond the basic job description of running a campsite. It is in the details that Aux Memes excels and it is these details that make this site and gite so special.
The food at the weekends was delicious, well presented and good value for money. We ate ‘out’ with you more often than we intended (or budgeted for!)
On a practical point we felt that the pitches on the campsite are generously proportioned and there is no sense of being overcrowded. We suspect that those of us with tents could find some of the pitches restrictive due the slope of the ground.
The only thing that causes us to hesitate recommending this site to others is that we want to keep this gem a secret. Not to share this site with others would be selfish and so we would, and have already, recommended Aux Memes to others.
JoeAyThe first and by far the the most memorable campsite of our 1 month France holiday during August 2011. Ideal for Long/Short stay.
We only planned on stopping for 1 night, but stayed for 3. The Dogs are very friendly and for a small camp site it offered a huge amount! Jan takes bread orders the night before so you can wake up to a nice fresh baguette from the local town. We arrived late afternoon after a 7 hour drive to find a well presented House, Reception & Bar with outdoor covered seating area and a ping-pong table close by. Jan & Pete welcomed us in and sorted us out a pitch and informed us of available amenities. Pitch sizes are large and have both running water and electricity, just looking out of our tent the views are breath taking! There is an extremely well looked after swimming pool a stones throw away from anywhere on the site and the toilet/shower/wash basins are extremely clean.
If we are driving to Spain again we will definitively detour just for another night at this brilliant campsite!
Brigitte L. Willerval, FranceTrès bon accueil – vue magnifique – calme/reposant
Diane+KenGreeted by the Hosts, Peter and Jan, warm and friendly and professional.
The site is elevated and enjoys panoramic views of the open countryside. The pitches are spacious with both water and electricity to each pitch.
The showers/toilets, grounds and pool areas are immaculately maintained. The Pool area certainly giving way to relaxation and cooling off in the sparkling blue waters!
We had dinner at the restaurant on our first evening and the food and service excellent, best meal we have had whilst travelling through France in the past couple of months. There is also a little bar and coffee shop that, once again, is superb!
The ambience of Aux Memes is intimate, warm and friendly with the constant reassurance that it is managed very professionally.
We would have no hesitation in recommending this to our travelling friends and it will certainly have a place in our address book for places to return to.
DmjawWe arrived at Aux Memes tired and drained after a long journey and a frantic term (2 teachers, 3 school children!). It was blisteringly hot as we put up the tent and the swimming pool beckoned. Within the hour we were relaxed and well and truly content in France’s little patch of heaven.
Jan and Pete were kind, friendly and helpful, striking that ideal balance between being available without being intrusive. We quickly established a routine of lounging by the pool followed by a chilled glass of wine/ice lolly under the welcome shade of the bar.
We didn’t have the opportunity to sample their menu but it certainly looked appetising and Pete rustled up frites for our 3 hungry daughters on the Friday evening.
The toilet block was exceptionally clean and modern with a large shower room which was great with small children. The swimming pool was perfect – clean and warm and there was a small play area.
It was nice to be able to choose our own pitch and, whilst there was a lack of shade, that will change with time as a number of young saplings were thriving around each pitch. We shall be able to feedback on their growth later this year as we as a family are universally agreed that we must go back next summer!
Misty2011An excellent site. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome by the helpful owners. Everything on the site was immaculate from the showers and toilets to the swimming pool, bar and restaurant. There is also a small children’s play area. The site has a small shop with fresh bread available to order. There is a large supermarket in the small town of Masseaube about 2 miles away.
The pitches are very spacious with electricity and water connections, with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside and the Pyrennes on a clear day.
This is a very rural site (so don’t forget your walking boots). The wildfife is amazing! If you want to explore a little further afield a day trip to the Pyrennes or a trip to Spain is within easy reach. Closer by is the little market town of Mirande (About 30 mins drive) or the old town of Auch.
A site we really did not want to leave but we will return.
David. Bodmin, Royaume-UniBrilliant
Probably the most perfect spot to camp in and tour from and it’s close to the Pyrenees The countryside is beautiful, the weather is usually pleasant and sunny. The welcome from the owners Jan and Pete is warm, helpful and friendly and you are made to feel at home and comfortable. The facilities are well thought out, clean and well appointed. The bar is a welcome respite after a day of touring!! All in all I can thoroughly recommend this site!!
Myra. Cambridgeshire, Royaume-UniBeautiful and Peaceful Rural Site
What a Gem of a site. We stayed here for 4 nights in July and wished we could have stayed longer. We had a wonderful pitch both with water and electricity connections to our pitch. We were over looking the countryside and the Pyrennes. It was just so peaceful and relaxing. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived by the owners Jan and Peter. Everything on the site was immalculate from the lovely little swimming pool with sunbeds and parasols provided to the toilet and showers. A small bar and restaurant was also available on site together with a small shop. We can highly recommend this site (although we would prefer to keep it hush hush incase it gets to crowded) We will definately be returning to this site and for a longer stay the next time.
Len SelbyMy wife & I have visited this site on 3 occasions over the past two years. We found it extremely pleasant with the owners Peter & Jan most welcoming and helpful.
The facilities are clean and all pitches have ample room with electric hook up. The site is in an elevated position with great views all round. There is an excellent swimming pool and a nice cosy bar.
Food is available if required and also fresh farm eggs. We found this site most relaxing being in a wonderful part of rural France.
The fact that we have been back there on 3 occasions speaks for itself. Just try it. You will not be disappointed.
DavefletcherWe stayed here for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed the site. The owners Peter and Janet were very helpful and obliging. The site has wonderful views over the surrounding area including the snow capped Pyrennes in the distance(within reach by car) The site is spotless, there is a pool. The showers and toilets are clean. It is in wonderful countryside and well worth a visit.
Ruth. Oxford, Royaume-UniGreat quiet and friendly campsite
This is a lovely quiet get away from it all campsite. The owners are relaxed and very friendly. The showers, bathrooms etc are clean and well run. I can’t rate this highly enough and we are returning this year.
